ALCOHOL AND THE LAW

Image

The relationship between alcohol and crime is complicated although some crimes such as drink-driving and being drunk and disorderly are obviously caused by alcohol; there is also a range of other crimes associated with drinking. Regular heavy drinking and binge drinking behaviours are associated with a whole range of problems including antisocial behaviour, violence and accidents, As alcohol makes you lose your inhibitions you are more likely to be involved in incidents and accidents and get yourself into trouble. If you are seen drinking alcohol illegally by the police, you can have your alcohol confiscated, receive an on the spot fine of £80 or even be arrested!

As drinking alcohol can be so dangerous you have to be over 18 to buy it. Trading Standards make sure that no shops sell alcohol illegally to young people. If shops do sell alcohol illegally they face a fine up to £5000 or even six months in prison.
